WE successfully delivered the final Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) pilot intervention in the Municipality of Gjorche Petrov, marking the completion of the key field activities under our project “Nature Based Solutions for Advancing Climate Mitigation in City of Skopje” focused on reducing air pollution and strengthening local climate resilience through practical, community-based green interventions.

As part of the closing activities, and in the presence of high-level representatives of the Embassy of Canada in Belgrade—Ms Ashley Durec (Deputy Head of Mission and Political Counsellor) and Mr Vladan Miladinovic (Political and Economic Officer)—we held a working meeting with the Mayor of Gjorche Petrov, Mr Aleksandar Stojkovski. The discussion addressed the municipality’s most pressing environmental challenges, the measures currently being implemented by the local administration, and the importance of structured cooperation with civil society to achieve sustainable, long-term impact in environmental protection and climate action.

To conclude the visit, a symbolic tree-planting action was organised in the central area of Gjorche Petrov, where each participant planted a tree as part of the project’s pilot NbS intervention. This final activity reinforced a key project message: nature is not only affected by climate change—it is a crucial part of the solution, offering tangible benefits such as improved thermal comfort, healthier microclimates, and more liveable public spaces for citizens.
FLOROZON remains committed to supporting municipalities and local communities in scaling up Nature-Based Solutions and integrating them into local environmental planning and practice.
